Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

It’s almost that time of year again when sweethearts remember to honor their loved ones and singles question the value of this holiday?  LOL. I prefer to think of Valentine’s Day as a simple celebration of love. Whether in a relationship or on our own, we can all agree that love is a many splendored thing, no?! But by love I don’t mean sappy, romance-only love. I mean the kind of love you can experience with friends, family, your partner, or your pet for goodness’ sake. So when celebrating love, why not buy yourself or that friend/lover a treat this year. I’ve curated a list of goods that I own or would love to own (hint-hint to my husband) from local to Cleveland makers and creatives; most items you can purchase online. I am not sponsored by any of these makers other than myself :), I just love their goods. Happy shopping!

1. Legends Headwear

This made in the land winter hat or many other options will keep you warm even in the coldest of polar vortexes (seriously, use the promo code “polarvortex” to save 25% right now!).

2. 1820 Candle

I cannot get enough of this Ohio candle maker. My favorite cool weather scent is “Amber Santal” from the Elemental Signature collection. It feels like I’m wrapped in a warm winter sweater (fun fact: they used to have a similar scent called “winter sweater”). For warmer weather, I love the Salt Salt & Cypress scent from the B. Elixir collection.

3. Shore Society

Ok, let’s face it. I already have a “salty” Tee. Now I just need the “salty” sweatshirt. Designer/owner, Rachael from Shore Society produces the cutest products inspired by Lake Erie and life by the water. Ooh, I might need a hat, too.

4. Lake Erie Design Co

I love owner/designer Nikki’s cards, calendars, prints but I’m thinking this “Peace” print is really what I need for my office. Because who doesn’t need to be reminded to keep the peace, live in peace, be peaceful, seek peace. 🙂

5. p.s. bonjour

Did you know p.s. bonjour has a shop (on Etsy) where I sell handmade and vintage goods either inspired by or found on my travels? I’m particularly drawn to France, and who better to convey the language of love than the French? Shop pillows, linens, or jewelry like this Amour necklace. Or shop many vintage items from France.

6. Small Screen Designs

Any Cleveland fan will recognize the guardians of transportation that adorn the Hope Memorial Bridge (aka the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge). These glasses are perfect for that fan of the land with their unique style and artwork from designer, Sara. (Currently available in the shop at Urbane Society Salon in Tremont, Ohio). Visit Small Screen Designs online to learn more.

7. Wildfoot Studio

I am so drawn to the turquoise pieces from this metalsmithing duo, Caleb and Elissa, but the other pieces are fabulous as well! (like this beautiful teardrop aquamarine ring)

8. Shopping Date or Giftcard

If you can’t decide what to buy, your friend/lover will no doubt appreciate a giftcard from a local shop or better yet, take him/her shopping and make a day of it! In Cleveland, some of my favorites are Moonstruck , The Salvaged Boutique, Helm Collective, Oceanne, Fount Leather, or Room Service.

9. Restaurant Date or Giftcard

I’m loving all the new (to me) restaurants in Cleveland, so why not take a date there or give a giftcard. For delicious sweet or savory crepes and coffee in an Instagram-worthy setting, try Brewella’s in Lakewood. Visit Masthead Brewery for some of the best wood-fired pizza and beer in Cleveland right now. Or give the gift of caffeine with a stop at one of the many Rising Star Coffee locations in the city (my favorite is the Hingetown location).

10. Date Night Activity or Giftcard

Why not try a place like Forest City Shuffleboard for a unique activity. We went there with the family after Christmas and had so much fun playing indoor shuffleboard! Or visit the Cleveland Museum of Art where the permanent collection is always free and the visiting exhibits are always worth it (become a member for regular savings).

There you go, friends! That should get your mind going with a variety ideas. And when you buy from these folks, remember that you are supporting small businesses and they will all appreciate it. Happy Valentine’s Day!
